What can we expect in the cottage?
The cottage has most standard kitchen items you’ll need to cook meals, including a paella pan, cafetière and blender/mixer. It has salt, pepper, herbs and olive oil. You will need to bring all other food and condiments. We provide sufficient toilet roll, bin liners, washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, and handsoap etc to help you settle in for a day or so but further supplies will be needed for long stays. We also provide some cleaning supplies and firelighters. A hair dryer is available
Is there a BBQ?
Yes there is a BBQ on the terrace. Guests must provide their own charcoal, lighters etc.
Do you allow smoking in the property?
Smoking and vaping are not permitted inside the house.
Is linen provided?
All linens, towels and tea towels are provided. Beds will be made up ready for your arrival.
Do you supply a cot?
We can supply a travel cot suitable for children up to 24 months old free of charge. Please inform us in advance of your need for a cot.
Can I bring my dog?
Yes, you can bring your dog. We allow up to two dogs and a tariff of 20EUR per stay applies. This tariff covers the cost of thoroughly cleaning the house after every visit to ensure that it is spotlessly clean for the next guests.
The outside area is not secure although the road is extremely quiet.
What are the check in / check out times and do we need to meet someone at the property?
No, you do not need to meet anyone when you arrive. You can arrive any time after 3.00 pm. Keys are held in a lock box. You will be given the security number and house instructions 4 weeks before your arrival date.
Please leave no later than 11 am on your departure date. To ensure a smooth and efficient changeover we need to start our cleaning work straight away and our housekeepers will arrive at 11 am promptly.
Can I extend the check in-check out times?
During peak times this is not possible as we need the time to prepare the house. During quieter months it may be possible to extend the check in/check out times by up to 1 hour free of charge. Any extensions beyond this are charged at 10EUR per hour.
Where is the nearest restaurant/bar serving food?
There are 2 bars/restaurants in Hinojares (5km).
Where are your nearest supermarkets, shops, bakeries etc
The nearest shops and supermarkets are in Pozo Alcon 10km away. Market day is a Monday.
What about public transport?
The nearest bus terminal is in Pozo Alcon.
Transfer times from major airports are:
Granada – 1 hour 40 mins (Easyjet from London Gatwick and Manchester)
Almeria – 2 hours
Murcia – 2 hrs 15 mins.
Malaga – 2 hrs 45 mins
Is there Air Conditioning?
No, but the house was designed and built before the days of air conditioning so it’s thick stone walls and small windows keep it cool in the summer. There are some electric fans available although it is unlikely that you will need them.
Is the cottage heated?
The house has solid stone walls and in keeping with traditional Spanish country homes is heated via wood burning stoves and gas heaters. Instructions on how to use these can be found in the house. Firewood is supplied and included in your booking fee.
How about road access and parking?
Road access to Cortijo Azul is good – the last 2km is narrow but there are plenty of passing spaces. There is parking for 3+ cars at the property.
Will my mobile phone work in the cottage? Is there WIFI? TV?
Yes, phone and 3/4G signal is generally very good, depending upon your supplier.
Wifi is available for browsing, watching TV etc.
There is a Smart TV.
Where can I swim?
There are lovely open-air municipal pools at Pozo Alcon, Castril and Cuevas del Campo open late June to early September. For beaches and open water swimming head to Lake Negratin (30 mins) and Lake Bolera (20 mins).
Where can I walk?
It’s a 6km walk down the valley on a waymarked trail to Hinojares plus there are other short walks around the village. Details are in the house. Or head further into the National Parks for more serious hiking. There are plenty of options available to suit all abilities.
